A free Wispr Flow alternativedictation that stays on your device
Saywell does the Wispr Flow loop in your browser: hold the mic button or the Space bar, talk, let go, and clean text is ready to paste. Fillers disappear, 'scratch that' works, punctuation and lists are written for you. Speech recognition runs on your own device with Whisper, so after a one-time download it works offline and no audio ever leaves your computer.

What Saywell does not do
- Saywell cannot type into other apps by itself. A web page cannot paste at your cursor, so the text is copied and you press Cmd+V or Ctrl+V.
- The shortcut works while Saywell is the active window, not system-wide.
- The first use downloads a speech model, from 66 MB to about 1.6 GB, depending on the accuracy you pick.
- On-device recognition is close to cloud quality for clear speech, weaker with heavy accents or loud rooms.
- No AI rewriting of your text and no meeting notetaker.

Why people leave Wispr Flow
Everything goes to the cloud
Wispr Flow's own data page says transcription always happens in the cloud, so there is no dictation without a connection.

Context from your screen
Context Awareness, on by default, sends nearby on-screen text along with your dictation to improve results.

A weekly word cap
The free plan stops at 2,000 words a week on a computer, about fifteen minutes of talking, until the counter resets.

Before you switch
Is Wispr Flow free?
Up to 2,000 words a week on a computer and 1,000 on mobile. After that, Pro costs $15 a month, or $12 a month billed yearly.
Is there an offline alternative to Wispr Flow?
Yes. Saywell runs the Whisper speech model inside your browser. After the first download it transcribes with no connection at all.
Does Saywell send my voice anywhere?
No. Audio is processed on your device and nothing is uploaded while you record, transcribe or save.
Can Saywell type into any app?
Not directly. It copies the clean text so you can paste it anywhere with Cmd+V or Ctrl+V. That is the main thing a web app cannot do.
Does it understand French?
Yes. Saywell dictates in English and French, and its interface is in both languages.
Can I export what I dictated?
Yes. Your history exports as TXT, Markdown or JSON, and a full backup includes your dictionary, snippets and settings.
